Nerd Fuel: Barnie’s Coffee – Santa’s White Christmas

Merry Christmas! That’s right, it’s Christmas Eve. 2019 is almost at its end. And if you’re like me, you’ll be up late getting ready for tomorrow’s festivities. To get me through the night I’ll be relying on plenty of coffee. For this Nerd Fuel review I’m going to share my thoughts on a rather festive coffee selection; Santa’s White Christmas by Barnie’s Coffee & Tea.

Some of you may have noticed something odd about the picture at the top of this post. The coffee featured in the picture above is in a bag. It is not a box of K-Cups! That’s right, from this point forward I will no longer be limiting my Nerd Fuel reviews to coffee pods. There’s simply too many great coffees out there that are just not available in single serving pods. Now, in the case of Santa’s White Christmas you can get it either way, ground or K-cups. But for this review, I went with an old  fashioned bag of coffee grounds.

Santa’s White Christmas is an interesting selection. I’ve seen it on the shelves at my local grocery store for quite a while. And even though it’s actually available year round, I wanted to wait until the proper season to give this one a try. You see, initially this coffee was only available around Christmas. But it became so popular that it is now for sale regardless of season.

This coffee is a medium roast and it’s infused with caramel, coconut, and vanilla flavors. This results in an extremely delightful aroma as it brews. But I’ll be honest, I was pretty skeptical about how it was going to taste. More often than not, many flavored coffees end up tasting fake and the quality of the coffee itself is usually drowned out by whatever flavoring the roaster is using. Thankfully, that’s not the case with this selection.

Please don’t misunderstand. The flavor of this coffee is very strong. The coconut is front-and-center from the first sip, followed by a burnt caramel and mild vanilla aftertaste. But somehow, the flavors still end up complementing the coffee without covering its natural taste. The end result is a very delicious and pleasing coffee that is the perfect fit for a crisp Christmas morning.

To say I was pleasantly surprised is an understatement. In fact, I can’t remember the last time I was this impressed with a flavored coffee. Santa’s White Christmas is a new favorite! So, if you’re looking for something new and festive to try this holiday season, this is one coffee that comes highly recommended.

Score: 4 out of 4

Would buy again?:  Yes. Delicious and well balanced. The flavor of this coffee is difficult to explain, but masterfully done. The perfect coffee for late winter nights or to wake up with on a groggy Christmas morning.
