Nerd Fuel: Bones Coffee – White Chocolate Peppermint Bark

At last! Christmas is here! Today is the day that children both young and old will finally get their hands on that coveted gadget they’ve been desiring all year long. Of course, this Christmas is one for the record books. Thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic, our festivities have been altered to a large degree. But, even if you’re not able to see your loved ones face to face, we thankfully have modern technologies like Facetime and other services that can help us bridge the gap.

I don’t know about you. But in my neck of the woods this year, this Christmas is a cold one. And what better way is there to warm up then with a hot cup of coffee? This post marks the last of my Bones Coffee holiday reviews. Today, I’m going to sample their White Chocolate Peppermint Bark.

Before I start, I will once again be up front about something. Typically speaking, I despise peppermint flavored coffees. There’s just something about it. I don’t like to drink mint. I know… I’m weird. So, if you’re a mint coffee lover, then take everything I’m probably about to say with a grain of salt.

With the above statement in mind, I wasn’t expecting to enjoy this coffee at all. That being said, I was quite delighted at the cool, sweet aroma that these coffee beans gave off when I opened the package. I found the aroma of this coffee to be much lighter and also more pleasant than I anticipated. This was a welcome surprise that carried over into my first tasting of the coffee.

The first sip of the coffee floored me. The primary flavor here is a smooth, cool white chocolate – not the overly rich white chocolate that you often come across in candy bars or truffles. It is more like the mellow sweetness you’d find in white chocolate almond bark. This flavor is followed up with a subtle peppermint finish. In the end, it turns out to be the perfect combination that really does fit the Christmas holiday.

I’ve always found peppermint coffees to have a very over-the-top buzz to them. So discovering one that sort of buries the mint flavor was really unique.  At least for me, it was the little push that I never knew I was looking for in a mint coffee. Again, if you’re a mint-lover than perhaps this one might not be “zesty” enough for you. But I found it to be absolutely delightful.

Score: 4 out of 4

Would buy again?: Surprisingly yes! I’m not usually a mint coffee drinker. But this one has opened my eyes. It’s a perfect blend of smooth white chocolate with just a hint of crisp peppermint. Perfect for the holiday season.
