2022 Look Ahead
2021 was an odd year for the site.
In terms of gaming, progress on my backlog was slower than in previous years, but still fairly steady. Several of the games I played and reviewed were chock full of content and took quite a while to digest. Despite this, a number of them were Class A titles that I’ve looked forward to for many years. 2022 is going to see the completion of my RPG special project. This means that by the end of the year the majority of pre-2000 RPGs on my list will have been played and reviewed. This will consolidate my backlog even further, meaning that I’ll be reviewing RPGs alongside other titles of the same generation. Of course, there will exceptions here and there, but that’s to be expected.
Once my RPG special project is complete, I’m going to replace it more modern games. I still do this occasionally, but back during the early days of this blog, I used to balance retro titles with newer ones much more than I do now. For example, 2013 saw remakes of both Tomb Raider and Shadow Warrior. I played those games at release and thoroughly enjoyed them. Since that time, both games have received sequels. I think it’s about time that I dive into those as well.
When it comes to tabletop gaming, I’ve actually managed to catch up for all official D&D releases. In the coming weeks, I’m going to push through a number of reviews for third-party D&D products in order to get caught up on those as well. 2022 is also going to see me chronicle the creation of my own homebrew D&D world. This is something that I’m extremely excited about. I’ll post more details regarding this project in the coming months.
This year I’m also going to resume a series of posts on a topic that I’ve admittedly been pretty lazy about: comics. To start, I’m going to fire back up my Star Wars comic book reviews. But I’m also going to be exploring other comic-related interests of mine. This includes books from my youth as well as newer releases. Stay tuned for more info.
Also this year, I plan to increase the frequency of my Record Shop articles. (The first of which will be arriving in the next few weeks.)
So far I’ve covered a bunch of things that have been seen on this site in one form or another over the last several years. But I do have a few new projects to announce as well. First on the list is… movie reviews! In the past I’ve talked about a handful of sporadic TV shows (most related to Star Wars shows). But this year I’m actually going to discuss classic movies that were responsible for charging up my nerd-o-meter. I’ll start with classics like Star Wars, of course. But as the series goes on, you’ll hear about a variety of films that have really been special to me. I hope you look forward to this.
But here’s the biggest news of all. 2022 is will finally see the official introduction of live streaming. This is something that I’ve flirted with before. But I’ve never really made an honest push into the hobby. That’s going to change. I realize that with my real-life schedule being what it is, I’ll never be as big as Dr. Disrespect, Ninja, or countless other famous streamers. But I would like to build a small dedicated audience that’s passionate about retro gaming. Again, more on this in the second quarter of the year.
So there you have it, my roadmap for 2022. I hope you all enjoy the content I have planned for the site..
