Nerd Fuel: Poggers Drink Mix

This review is a special. Why, might you ask? Well, for two reasons. First, this review marks the first time I’ve made a “Nerd Fuel” post for anything other than coffee (this a is trend that I’m going to continue), and also because this post features my first ever affiliated product. That’s right, recently I was contacted by someone from Poggers Lifestyle to ask if I would be interested in participating in their affiliate program. They market various drink mixes aimed at a gamer/nerd culture demographic. I accepted their offer on a conditional basis – meaning if I find their product quality to be lacking, I’ll promptly end my affiliation. That being said, don’t assume I’m going to give a biased review. As always, I’m going to provide my readers with my honest opinion regarding the quality of this product. Before I continue, I want to state up front that I did NOT receive this product for free. Both of the flavors that I’m going to talk about in this post were purchased by me for this review.

You may or may not have heard of Poggers before. To be honest, I was completely unfamiliar with the brand before they reached out to me. At this time, Poggers only sells drink mix powders and accessories. Currently, they have three drink mix lines; Energy, Hydration, and Sleep. When it comes to a pick me up, coffee is and likely will remain my go-to drink. So for this review, I opted for their Rocket Pop Hydration Drink Mix and their Grape Sleep Formula.

Those of you that workout are probably familiar with this concept. You take a scoop of the powdered drink mix, add 6-8 ounces of water, and shake over ice (typically in a shaker cup). That’s all there is to it. It’s not the most convenient thing. But the idea here is that each container of drink mix powder has about 30 servings. If you were to buy this amount of a premixed drink, the cost would be much higher, plus you’d have to worry about consuming it before an expiration date. So the idea here is value. Which is good because if I’m being honest, Poggers doesn’t exactly seem all that cheap at first glance. A container of their hydration mix is $30 and their sleep formula is $20. (For those of you interested in their energy drinks, the price is $35). So, if we’re looking at their hydration mix, this breaks down to right at $1 per serving. This seems a bit high at first, but if you compare it to the cost of a single serving of Gatorade or Powerade, you quickly see that’s actually quite a deal.

So now that I have all of that out of the way, let me tell you about the drink itself. After browsing all the options, I decided to go with the Rocket Pop flavored hydration mix. After all, who doesn’t love those old school red, white and blue colored popsicles? Preparing the drink couldn’t be any simpler. You grab a shaker cup (I purchased one from Poggers when I placed my order, but any old shaker cup will do), you add water and ice, close the lid and shake for ten seconds. That’s it.

As I was preparing the drink, I took a moment to look over the ingredients. Surprisingly, this seems to be a pretty solid product! One serving only contains 10 calories and is loaded with a number of vitamins and minerals. For the curious, the key ingredient to the hydration mix seems to be a healthy dose of coconut water powder. After examining the ingredient list and the nutrition information, it seems like you could really classify this as more of a supplement instead of just a thirst quencher.

Once the drink was prepared, I took my first sip. I found the flavor to be sweet with cherry/citrus taste at first, but the aftertaste does have hints of blue raspberry. This is exactly what I’d expect from a Bomb Pop (the popsicle this drink is modeled after). Overall, it’s a pleasant and unique flavor. If hydration drinks are something you consume regularly, this is certainly worth a try. It’s tasty and the powdered mix is a great way to save some money. On the other hand, if you don’t consume this sort of beverage regularly, it may be more convenient to just pick up a bottle of Gatorade from the store to save yourself from having to mix it. I try to go for a brisk walk or jog several times a week, so I plan to integrate this into my post-walk routine for a while and see how it compares to other drinks.

On to the next one… Poggers Grape Sleep formula.

Preparing this follows the same process as above so I won’t go over all that again. This product is not packed with vitamins like the hydration mix is. Instead, it contains a few ingredients known to produce sleep and calming effects (namely Jujube fruit and Melatonin). The taste is a bit milder than the hydration mix. But it does indeed taste like grape, and it’s very pleasant. As far as the sleep benefits go, I can’t say that I noticed any calming or mellowing out effects. But then again, my evenings are fairly quiet and relaxed to begin with. According to the sleep monitoring on my smartwatch, however, I did seem to have a more restful night’s sleep after consuming the product. This surprised me a bit, as I usually toss and turn a lot. I’ll continue to drink this every night before bed and I’ll see how this trends over time and update this review as necessary.

So, what’s the final word on Poggers?

Well, I’m happy to announce that their offerings do indeed seem to be quality products. It’s not some cheap multilevel marketing-quality trash. The drink mixes are tasty and packed with various supplements that align with the intended use. The gamer-theme and the frog mascot are fun, and the company frequently introduces and rotates out their available flavors. Poggers is a small, US-based company, and everything they sell is packaged and distributed in the United States. The prices seem a tad high at first, but when you really break down the cost-per-serving, you find that it’s actually a bit of a savings. The good news is, that as an affiliate I can help you save 10% off your order. To get this savings, simply use the discount code: OLDGAMEHERMIT during checkout when you visit their site, or you can place your order using this link: https://poggerslifestyle.com/OLDGAMEHERMIT. Score: 3 out of 4

Would buy again?: Yes. Poggers offers high quality drink mixes with a number of potential health benefits. Poggers’ products have a fun gamer theme and I love the artwork on every container. Even though I can see the value in their pricing long term, $20 and $30 is still a lot to shell out for something that you’ve never tried it before. Combine that with tax and shipping and I feel the cost is just a tad higher than most people are going to want to pay. For this reason, I can’t give the product a 4 out of 4. Luckily, you can shave off a bit of the cost using my code or link above.
