“Would you like to play a game?” – July 2025

In the next few days, I’m going to be posting reviews for both Fatal Frame II and Unreal Tournament 2003/2004. With the completion of these two titles, I have finally cleared the last game of 2003 on my main backlog. Now, I could easily just continue chugging along down my list as I’ve always done. But, I feel like I want to do something different.

Around the start of 2004, things were beginning to shift. Gaming was now a fully established business. Originality was starting to lag behind as certain industry standards were beginning to take hold. Also, the huge technological leaps in graphics and processing power were beginning to slow. Part of the reason I’ve mainly posted my reviews in a chronological order is because I wanted to be able to discuss the evolution of gaming. However, by 2004 we’ve now reached a point where almost anything that could be done, had now been done. Of course, there are exceptions. But generally speaking. That’s sort of where we’re at.

Also, by continuing to just play and review releases chronologically, I’m really missing out on some classic games. So, I have developed a fun solution.

Yes, I’m going to continue to go down my backlog in order. But, as a secondary project, I’m also going to be picking a game/franchise at random. To do this, I’ve decided to make a list of titles or series that I want to catch up on. Then, I’ll roll a twenty sided die and go with the results.

Below is the list that I’ve put together. In the next day or two, I’ll be making the roll and we’ll see what game I’ll be adding as the next in line to my queue!
