A long time ago I posted a collective review for the three Final Fantasy Legend games. Known in Japan as SaGa, Final Fantasy Legend is a series of classic RPGs for the original Game Boy system. I was a huge fan of these titles when I was kid and I’ve always recommended them to any…
It seems that the age of retro game collections is upon us! In recent months and years, we’ve seen compilations for Mega Man, Castlevania, Street Fighter, and Contra. Most recently, and especially exciting for me, is the Collection of Mana. This bundle includes the first three “Mana” RPGs; Final Fantasy Adventure, Secret of Mana, and never…
MURMUR * CHANT * PRAY * INVOKE! Could it be true? Almost five years after the death of Wizardry Online, does the game have a chance at a resurrection? For those of us keeping a close eye on anything Wizardry related, it is starting to sound possible. Recently, a post was made on Reddit’s /r/wizardry…
Konami continues to celebrate its 50th anniversary with another collection of classic games from the vault. This time with a collection of titles from the Contra series. For most retro gamers like me, Contra was the ultimate two-player game. What gamer over the age of thirty-five doesn’t remember keying in the Konami code and blasting…
As I mentioned in some of my more recent posts, lately there’s been a rise in popularity for retro game collections. It could be argued that Capcom started this trend with the release of the Mega Man Legacy Collection. For example, I recently reviewed the SEGA AGES version of Phantasy Star, a modern presentation of an 80’s-era RPG. Some other recent compilations that come to mind are the Mega…
Back in the fall, I made a post where I discussed the best way to experience classic NES games. My suggestion, of course, was the NES Classic console. In case you’re not familiar, the NES Classic is a modern plug-and-play style system, designed by Nintendo themselves. The system comes pre-loaded with a number of classic…
So far in my Retro Rewind series I’ve talked a bit about classic coin-op arcade games. I’ve also discussed some of the earliest home console games made popular by the Atari 2600. But no discussion of retro gaming is complete without mentioning the Nintendo Entertainment System. This is the machine that took gaming from being…
Several years ago, I made a two-part post on this site regarding my experience with various MMOs. ( You can read them using the following links: Rise of MMOs part 1 & Rise of the MMOs part 2 ). In these articles I elaborated a bit on some of the multiplayer online games I’ve tinkered…
